I really do want to start by saying to every one who has e-mailed me or left a message, thank you so much, I know I’ve not been leaving comments on your blogs…..but your support has been so greatly appreciated, I really can’t express how much….. I am coming back soon and will hopefully be back to blogging and card making next week, we still have a few things to do for Gizmo including settling the bill for the five weeks he spent in Newmarket, boy is it a big one
Well it has been a while, as you can probably tell from my header, Gizmo is blind, we got the news just over a week ago, his retina detached, the surgery was successful but unfortunately his eye had just given up, when the retina detaches there is no more that can be done. The surgeons did not remove the eye as it’s quite stable at the moment, although he does have a huge ulcer on his cornea that is clearing up nicely but may take a few more weeks…
On the positive side, Gizmo is doing absolutely wonderfully, he came home a little over a week ago and after bumping into the walls and furniture a few too many times he’s starting to map the house and is jumping onto the sofa’s and going up and down the stairs, attempting to run out of the back door after Spike.
I have to say our home looks absolutely ridiculous at the moment, trees and bushes in the garden with trunks wrapped in one inch foam to protect Gizmo’s nose, the corners of the shed have the same foam tacked to them, in the house there are small squares of felt with essential oils on them dotted all round the place, to help Gizmo avoid bumping into too may legs and door frames, we’ve also had to put up child safety gates at the top and bottom of the stairs and also to two rooms, and we are avidly reading up on what more we can do to help him in the immediate future. Gizmo will apparently start to map the whole garden and house and by the way he’s been getting around this week, he’s doing a great job….. Mark was distraught when we first got him home, he kept knocking into things quite hard, and Mark was finding it very hard to stay positive, I told him that Gizmo would pick up on that and if he was negative about the situation Gizmo would be to, that little pep talk seemed to do the trick, he has had a much more positive attitude this week….
Gizmo Ahhhh Gizmo, he is eating us out of house and home and even though he is now blind and still quite timid, he has us all at his beck and call, he has definitely become the most important member of our house hold and he knows it, Mark finds it very hard to say no to him, I on the other hand can see what Gizmo is doing, and only say yes now and again, Spike was amazing with Gizmo right from the very first moment they met back up, he obviously knew there was something wrong, but one little growl and it was over, they’re back to running up the garden path together, this week Spike has been trying to get Giz to play, he wants to but obviously can’t see spike shaking his head to and fro beckoning him, Gizmo’s new toys haven’t arrived yet, they are for blind dogs, hopefully he’ll have Spike chasing him around the garden within the next few weeks….
I haven’t been so good, my RA started to flare up, when Gizmo got ill and I think with him being away for so long, I got stressed which didn’t help matters, but my health is starting to settle and I’ve started colouring images again, so hopefully next week I’ll be back blogging and card making….Well I just wanted to give you all an update as to why I’ve not been in touch or blogging, I do hope you all understand I have to put Gizmo first at least until he’s a little more used to being blind…. Thank you all so much for your support, I really can’t express how much it means to me…I took these pictures of Gizmo and Spike yesterday Gizmo actually looks completely normal apart from his shaved legs……the picture of Spike I took very sneakily when he came to sit at my side on the bench, he’s actually watching what Gizmo is doing…I’m going to post again tomorrow, I got two totally undeserved awards from two wonderful sweet friends and I want to show you all the beautiful gifts and cards I’ve received over the last few weeks from Moni Claudia Carole and Nikki…so until then Night Night Sleep Tight…….
